PESHAWAR: As many as three Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel were martyred while another six officials and a civilian were injured in a bombing in the Bashir Abad area of Peshawar on Tuesday.
According to reports, the FC convoy was targeted as FC Commandant Liaquat Ali was returning after attending the funeral of a journalist’s mother. The bombing occurred near the commandant’s vehicle. Three FC personnel breathed their last on the spot while another eight were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.
The martyred officials were identified as Hanif Jamal, Khalid and Y?sirullah.
Those injured were identified as Aizaz Ali, Zahoor, Syed Wakeel and a passerby Asif.
Operations Wing Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ejaz Khan told reporters that the FC personnel were on a routine patrol when their vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled explosive device. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDU) officials said one kg explosives were used in the bombing.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the terrorist attack. He expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of valuable lives. He said, “These cowardly attacks cannot shatter our unflinching resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism from our motherland.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak condemned the attack and said, “Such attacks cannot shatter our courage against terrorism.” Khattak also praised the security officials and said their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
