DUBAI – Former president and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief General (retired) Pervez Musharraf on Thursday welcomed termination of 11 senior military officers over corruption charges.
In a statement, he said that the Pakistan Army has set a great example by launching the anti-graft drive from its own institution. He said that the military would defeat internal and external threats. He said that corrupt elements in the politics would get united; however, he added that the people of Pakistan would support the army.
Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif dismissed 11 senior military officers, including a lieutenant general and a major general over their involvement in corruption. The army chief terminated services of Lt Gen Obaid Ullah Khattak, Maj Gen Ijaz Shah, five brigadiers, three colonels and one major.
Military said the officers have been sacked after investigation under army’s internal system of accountability. The development came two days after the army chief called for across the board accountability to uproot corruption and eliminate terrorism.
