Punjab is set to see a major upgrade in public transport with 100 new electric buses arriving soon. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced these buses have been shipped from Shanghai and will reach Punjab in the coming weeks. She promised that by December, every district in the province will have access to these modern buses, with fares set at just Rs20.
The new electric buses come equipped with air-conditioning, climate control, and CCTV cameras to ensure women’s safety and prevent harassment. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that these buses will provide comfortable, reliable transport while helping reduce environmental pollution. She called this a key step toward modern and eco-friendly public transit in Punjab.
Alongside the buses, the Chief Minister personally tested Pakistan’s first urban electric train, the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SART). She monitored the trial run from Ali Town to Muslim Town, inspecting onboard passenger facilities and overseeing its performance amid city traffic. Transport Minister Bilal Akbar also briefed her on the project’s progress.
Citizens along Raiwind Road and Canal Road expressed excitement and happiness at the sight of the new electric train. The initiative promises to transform Punjab’s public transport by offering safe, green, and affordable travel options for all.
This move aligns with Punjab’s broader goal to modernize infrastructure and reduce pollution while improving daily commutes for its residents.
