KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that tolerance is diminishing from society as narratives based on hatred and discrimination are being consumed by more and more people in the world.
In his message on the International Day for Tolerance, being observed today – November 16 – under the aegis of the United Nations, the PPP chairman said tolerance was the key foundation of any peaceful society. “Unfortunately, tolerance is not being promoted the way it should be in many parts of the world,” he maintained.
He said the PPP had adopted a policy of tolerance towards its opponents and tormenters as its hallmark. “Our slogan ‘democracy is the best revenge’ depicts our commitment to the nation as well as the world,” he said, adding: “The PPP has never preferred personal vendetta over collective democratic rights of the people with tolerance being the basic ingredient of a vibrant and strong democracy.”
Bilawal said intentional and unintentional fanning of bigotry and prejudice among different school of thoughts, regions, people and societies had to be discouraged by the world leaders to make human living on earth peaceful. He said the PPP was the living and unblemished example of tolerance, which lost its giant leaders like Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and thousands of its workers in the struggle for rights of downtrodden people of the country. But, he said, the party strictly adhered to its policy of tolerance. Bilawal pledged to continue work for an egalitarian Pakistan based on the teachings and vision of the founding fathers.
